‘I grew up in the world,’ says Turkish poet Melih Cevdet in a well-known poem, ‘they make things out of people there.’ These films attest to that searingly expressed truth about our lives and the daily atrocities we inflict on each other. These films have all been awarded at festivals for their biting vision of the ways we are.
