about the film
Southland Tales is the much-anticipated second feature from the acclaimed director of Donnie Darko. Writer and director Richard Kelly reaches into the near future of the South California and Los Angeles regions, called Southland by its inhabitants. Featuring stars like Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore and Justin Timberlake, with a soundtrack by Moby, the film asks: Is the future all that you’ve expected? Or is there something dark awaiting us? The year is 2008, the location, Los Angeles. Focusing on the three days preceding the Fourth of July festivities, the film points to a serious socio-economic and environmental crisis that grips the city. Doomsday has never been so frightening. With a nod to films like Kiss Me Deadly, Pulp Fiction, Brazil and Dr. Strangelove, Southland Tales weaves an eerie and compelling tale.
