The tradition of banning a new bride from speaking to her older male in-laws, named “Gelinlik Etmek”, in central and northern Anatolia is still practiced by some families in the region.

Efsun Duriye Namal (Ankara, 1978) lives in Ankara. She is an MA student at Ankara University, Women’s Studies Program.
Özlem Sarıyıldız (Denizli, 1978) lives in Ankara. She is a PhD candidate at METU Sociology Program.
